      The axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum), often called the "Mexican walking fish," is one of nature's most extraordinary creatures. With proper care, they can live 10-15 years in captivity.

      Beyond their appeal as exotic pets, axolotls are invaluable to science. Their genome is about ten times larger than a human's, offering rich material for genetic research.
